Our Equipment
With recent advances in cancer treatment, radiation oncologists
are now able
to map a cancerous site and deliver precise beams of radiation
directly to the diseased tissue.
However, differences do exist in the quality of radiation
equipment. CCC features state-of-the-art equipment, including:
(1) Varian CLINAC 2100CD linear accelerator
with multi-leaf collimator
(2) GE Medical Systems CT Hi Speed Advantage
Computed Tomography (CT) Simulator
(3) Phillips/ADAC Pinnacle 3-D treatment
planning, and
(4) IMPAC Record and Verification.
This collection of equipment is among the most technically
advanced radiation therapy equipment currently available.
Varian Oncology Systems, the world's largest supplier of integrated
cancer equipment and systems including the market-leading
CLINAC medical linear accelerator, is known throughout the
health care industry as the premier global radiotherapy manufacturer.
Philips/ADAC's Pinnacle radiation oncology systems computers
help oncologists plan, deliver, and evaluate precise radiation
treatments for cancer patients. The system combines third-party
workstations and printers with Philips/ADAC's proprietary
application software. They offer 3-D volumetric image processing
and dose computation capabilities that enable physicians to
plan the precise application of high-energy radiation to a
patient's specific targeted area for the treatment of cancer.
Treatment at CCC is confined to outpatient conventional,
external beam radiation therapy, which uses high-energy photons
to destroy deep-seeded tumors and high-energy electrons for
superficial ones in order to bring about biological change
in the tissues toward which the beams are directed. Most of
these tissues are malignant tumors or cancer bearing. Benign
tumors that cannot be treated with other conventional means
are also treated. Between 2 to 8% of these tissues bear benign
diseases that are appropriately addressed by radiation therapy
when more conservative treatments have failed.
CCC’s advanced radiotherapy equipment allows our radiation
oncologists to target tumors with greater precision by conforming
to near exactness the treatment area using an advanced robotic-like
device called a multi-leaf collimator (“MLC”)
and an advanced 3-D treatment planning system. This enables
the radiation oncologist to provide more radiation to the
tumor area, thus increasing the likelihood of eradicating
the disease while significantly reducing morbidity.
Our Advanced IMRT Technology
We are well-equipped to treat practically any malignancy
with
ground-breaking Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT).
IMRT is a revolutionary new treatment technique where high
dose volumes of radiation are sculpted to the unique shape
of each patient’s tumor. Based on the tumor size, shape,
and location, a powerful advanced computer program plans a
precise dose of radiation in three dimensions. IMRT directs
radiation at the tumor and varies the intensity of pencil
thin beams of radiation focusing on the tumor from multiple
directions with high precision. IMRT adds greater accuracy,
higher cancer control rate, and lower rate of side effects.
Prostate, brain, and head and neck treatments will notably
benefit from this modality. |
